Prometheus Rising by Robert Anton Wilson is a fascinating book obviously written by a mad genius. It is a heady mix of utter brilliance and utter bunkum (sometimes in the same sentence!)

It is worth the read because it truly is a mind-expanding book. You can re-read Prometheus Rising a couple of times at different points in your life and you are guaranteed to go away with something new and profound. Some throw-away sentences in the book are so profound they could be the subject of entire novels in themselves.

And it's fun to boot!

R.A.W. seems to have deliberately not taken himself too seriously. Definitions given will subtly contradict themselves two pages later. The first time this happens it is confusing but you soon get into the flow and enjoy the strangeness.

"Don't take me too seriously!" cries the book, "I am too important to be serious!"

At it's core, the author describes his understanding of the nature of the human mind. He does this by describing seven "circuits". Briefly each circuit is as follows:

The first five circuits are pretty much universal (in all humans) and Robert Anton describes them with superb insight punctuated with humor. The sixth, seventh, and eight circuits are not "easily found" and you can feel him stretching as he attempts to convey his ideas. Some of these sections almost read like bad email-forwards and you seem to glimpse the author's own "reality tunnel" (see the quote on this page - or better yet - READ THE BOOK!).

At the end of each chapter, R.A.W. gives a series of exercises for the reader. They are not simple but you MUST (absolutely MUST) do them all sincerely. They are part of the growth this book produces in it's reader.

Overall - this is a potentially life-changing book. Read it. Read it Today.
